DC-G Rho Kappa National
Social Studies Honor Society

The DCG chapter of Rho Kappa is one of only two in Iowa and was the first chapter to be awarded in the state. Membership in Rho Kappa is an honor bestowed upon those students who have shown interest and strong academic performance in social studies content. This interest can be in any or all of the social studies including political science, history, economics, sociology, psychology, geography and related areas.

Because this is an honor society, students do have to show academic success in course selection and G.P.A. Successful current enrollment or past completion of an AP course in the social studies is required. Be sure to see the specifics identified on the application. If you don’t currently qualify, you will have the opportunity to do so again. If you will be qualified at the end of the semester, you can still apply now. This is a very unique opportunity.

What do we do in Rho Kappa?

Rho Kappa students are presented with unique opportunities to learn more about social studies areas of interest, meet with those who work in the profession, and participate in activities and trips of historical, political or other significance. In past years we have volunteered at centers to help those in need; took part in a White House simulation at the Truman Library and Museum; toured the World War I Museum; toured the Strategic Air Command Museum; met with important figures such as Mary Beth Tinker;  and spent time at the Iowa Capitol. Rho Kappa students have also worked at the Iowa Council for the Social Studies Conference; directed the Veteran’s Day Assembly; took part in the Elections 101 project; and participated in the National History Bowl. There are endless possibilities.

Please find attached below a link to the application. I have also linked below a list of current Rho Kappa schools worldwide and some additional links about Rho Kappa. If you have questions or need assistance, please contact Mr. Vanderflught.
